Real Conversation

“We need people in our lives with whom we can be as open as possible. To have real conversations with people may seem like such a simple, obvious suggestion, but it involves courage and risk.”
Thomas Moore, Care of the Soul: A Guide for Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life

Soul At Rest

Post-3-Find-Rest-My-Soul.jpgThe soul seeks God with its whole being. Because it is desperate to be whole, the soul is God-smitten and God-crazy and God-obsessed. My mind may be obsessed with idols; my will may be enslaved to habits; my body may be consumed with appetites. But my soul will never find rest until it rests in God.”
John Ortberg, Soul Keeping: Caring For the Most Important Part of You

For Everything A Season

I love that about our God!  He created a world that He engages in that is cyclical, moving in the rhythms of birth, growth, death, resurrection.  As we enter the fall season I am reminded of the ways in which we each experience death seasons. Times when life seems to be stalling, or stagnant.  Hidden behind a blanket of soul frost.  Yet, as nature points us we know that the seed that is entrusted in the hands of the Father is never wasted.  It may be dormant, but it is in process.  Do you ever feel that way?  Dormant…but in process?

This season of soul care sessions have been amazing in the freedom and the expression that people are finding in what has been to them only frozen ground.  If you are experiencing a time of seeming fruitlessness…breathe.  Steady your anxiousness and remember, their is promise in the hiddenness and beauty in the waiting.

Ecclesiastes 3 :  There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven—

Soul Breathing

Breath (n)

the air inhaled and exhaled in respiration.

respiration, especially as necessary to life.

life; vitality.
Breath was the first moment of awakening man knew. We have been trying to discover how to breathe ever since.
Gen 2:7  And  God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
And man knew, reasoned, felt, hungered, thirsted, longed, yearned, desired, laughed, breathed- man became and the war of Becoming was started, as the serpent crept in to unmake the soul made in the image of God.
Mat 16:26  For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Our Lord wrested dominion of the souls of earth from the grasp of the prince of the age, denying the kingdoms of this world that we might live for the kingdom of Heaven.
Mat 4:8 -9 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.  And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul
and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.”
Matthew 22:36-40
We have a command to love, agapao, to intensely breathe after, in Hebrew, the  Lord our God.  To set our breathe upon the one who gave us life, and leads us in life, the Bishop of our souls. The  gift of empowering grace has been sent to lead us to the Fathers Heart, to glorify the Son of God in our midst and bring to our remembrance all things. Ancient memories and undiscovered truths hidden in the Word who is the Manna of life.
John 20:22  And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Pause. Catch your breath. Listen to your soul breathe.
